Queensland’s Department of Natural Resources is investigating 800 cases of illegal tree clearing in the state’s central region. The number of cases is increasing. Prominent central Queensland grazier Graeme Acton is the latest to be caught out by satellite imagery illegally clearing land. Acton pleaded guilty and received a record fine of $100,000 in Rockhampton Magistrates Court recently for bulldozing 12,000 hectares of land. Satellite imagery is helping prosecute illegal tree clearers. It’s been a very effective tool to finding out where tree clearing occurs.
