Russia eyes Latin American and Indian navigation market

Moscow, Russia: The Latin American and Indian markets will be a priority for Glonass, Russia’s global satellite navigation system, according to Russian Space Systems Deputy General Director Grigory Stupak.
Glonass is Russia’s answer to the US Global Positioning System, or GPS, and is designed for both military and civilian uses. A group of 31 Glonass satellites are currently in orbit with 24 needed to provide global coverage. Three reserve Glonass satellites were launched in November after three satellites were destroyed in a failed launch last year.
