Russia, November 20, 2014: Russia and China will create a joint venture for the promotion of services based on both Glonass and BeiDou technologies. Representatives from GLONASS Union and China North Industries Corporation (NORINCO) signed agreements at a recent meeting in Zhuhai. According to the agreement, the join-venture plans to spread its operations to the countries of Central and South Asia, the CIS and Eastern Europe.

For the administrative purpose, the ‘Russia–China Centre for the implementation of satellite navigation technologies in the civil sphere’ will be established by the end of 2014. The centre will be the controlling authority and would determine the future activity of the joint venture as well as deal with all issues related to its operations.

"We are approaching to the unification of markets of customised solutions. The scale of the Chinese market opens up new prospects for domestic developers," said GLONASS Union President Alexander Gurko. "The joint promotion of GLONASS and BeiDou to the world market can bring much more significant results than the promotion of these systems separately," he added.

Earlier in Moscow, GLONASS Union and NORINCO had signed a memorandum of cooperation which formalised agreements on cooperative development of navigation technologies in the two countries. Within the framework of this agreement the countries have already started collaborating on the development of the Silk Road project and joint development and production of high-performance Glonass/BeiDou IC's and navigation receivers.
