New Zealand: Graham Matthews FRICS has been appointed as the new Chair of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Oceania World Regional Board, taking over the position from Knight Frank Executive Chairman, Stephen Ellis.
About his new role, Matthews said, “RICS is an active and vibrant organisation throughout Australia and New Zealand with dedicated professionals working across property, construction, land and sustainability. The property and construction professions across the region face significant challenges with issues surrounding insurance coverage to major development and urban regeneration. These challenges are real and RICS, through its access to a global network of its professional members, can assist governments and the industry with global best practice standards and guidance.”
Matthews added, “We need to attract more young people to our exciting professions and be flexible enough to adapt to the changing needs of clients. RICS is a global body that offers professionals access to leading-edge thinking on global issues. I would like to thank Stephen Ellis for his continued hard work as Chair of the Oceania Board. His commitment to standards and professionalism has been a hallmark of his administration.”
Kaye Herald, RICS Asia Pacific Managing Director, said, “Matthews is Director of Investment at New Zealand Trade & Enterprise and is a current commissioner with the RICS Disaster Management Commission. Graham is a worthy recipient of this appointment.”
