Ranchi, India: ‘Building Plan section’ of the Ranchi Municipal Corporation (RMC) in India will soon get GIS system, according to Vinay Chaubey, CEO of the RMC. Chaubey was addressing a workshop, organised by the RMC to inform all RMC workers about GIS and its functioning.
Chaubey explained that GIS integrates hardware, software and data for capturing, managing, analysing and displaying all forms of geographically referenced information. He said, “GIS mapping will be helpful in computerising the ‘Building Plan Section’ and also help in the new holding assessment under the RMC Act, 2011.”
The GIS will be integrated with GPS and will work like Google map with more elaboration. “Google map shows just the area but our system will show every house in the city,” Chaubey added.
The map will be available for public viewing on the RMC website and it will work as a location finder. The system will not be implemented immediately though. “It is a lengthy process and will take some time to be implemented. We will try implementing it within six months”, said Chaubey.
