Australia: Trimble announced that its Quantm system has been selected for use by AECOM, a global provider of professional technical and management support services to a broad range of markets, including transportation, facilities, environmental, energy, water and government, to investigate alignment alternatives in the final phase of the Australian East Coast High-Speed Rail Study.
Following the successful application of the Trimble Quantm alignment planning system in phase one of the study, the Quantm system has been chosen to support the alignment analysis process for the final phase of the Australian Federal Government’s landmark study into the economic merits and financial viability of an East Coast High-Speed Rail Line.
The study is examining the feasibility of a 1,800 kilometre (1118.5 miles) eastern seaboard network connecting Brisbane and Melbourne via Sydney, Canberra and a range of regional centres. With a new high-speed rail line, trains could travel at speeds up to 350 kilometres (217 miles) per hour, with a travel time between the Sydney and Brisbane of approximately 3 hours. The Trimble Quantm system will be used to help find the optimal alignment for the preferred route, support the quantity and cost estimates and reports, and aid project planners in the decision-making process.
