PPL Electric Utilities Corporation implements GO Sync

Carlsbad, USA, August 28, 2007: TC Technology announced that PPL Electric Utilities has successfully implemented GO! Sync to integrate its ESRI ArcGIS GIS with its GE Smallworld PowerOn outage management system (OMS). The integration leverages GO! Sync’s inherent incremental update capabilities to ensure the mission critical OMS system is operating with the latest GIS information.

OMS is an important system to utilities, enabling increased customer service by identifying, analyzing, and storing historical information about outages, while also improving customer response, service restoration and notification times. GIS is the foundation for various utility network management systems from simple mapping to more complex areas of operation such as engineering analysis and outage management.

PPL Electric Utilities Corporation, a subsidiary of PPL Corporation that provides electricity delivery services to about 1.4 million customers in Pennsylvania. TC Technology assisted PPL Electric Utilities with the implementation of the GO! Sync solution prior to the 2006 /2007 storm season. The solution was stress tested in a parallel operating environment and stress tested during several months of use. Once proven, GO! Sync was moved into production in the summer of 2007.

“PPL has invested in its GIS and its OMS. Both help us serve our customers better,” states Dave Pandl of PPL’s Information Solutions department. “Given the spatial nature of OMS, a primary goal was to leverage our latest facility network information from GIS. GO! Sync help us achieve that goal.” added Pandl.
