Punjab, India: In order to provide better facilities to the residents, Powercom in Punjab State, India, is all set to launch the GIS project under the Restructured – Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP). Under the programme, geographical map of all areas will be made available to the officials for the purpose of management of assets regarding cost, age, working, numbering of poles, transformers, etc. The maps will be designed by the IT company Spenco.
The project will be carried out in all 47 cities of the state because after the privatisation of electricity department, the pressure on Powercom to provide better facilities has been mounting. Pradeep Gupta, senior executive engineer, Powercom, said, “It is state-based project and will be carried out under R-APDRP scheme part B. The project will be really helpful as we will be having all information available with us on prior basis. Hence, we can save money and time besides working efficiently.”
One of the staff member, on condition of anonymity said, “They will also be recruiting retired officers in this project as they feel retired persons have better knowledge of assets and areas of their division.”
