October 8, 2002—PlanGraphics has successfully delivered an updated digital orthophoto base map to the District of Columbia. The work was completed under contract to the District’s Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and will provide a major reference layer for the District’s GIS base map.
The base map was developed using state-of-the-art TrueOrthoÔ aerial datasets from ISTAR Americas, Inc. The highly automated nature of the TrueOrthoÔ process allows for rapid delivery of products. “This technology is a major step forward in the digital orthophoto production process,” said Richard Goodden, PlanGraphics vice president and ASPRS certified photogrammetrist. “The virtual elimination of building lean, high accuracy, and the rapid delivery of products and attractive cost, make this technology an obvious choice for local government GIS users,” Goodden said. “We are extremely pleased to be able to bring this technology to our clients.”
ISTAR is an aerial imaging and photogrammetric processing company that provides high-resolution digital data to cities, counties, and various commercial and government clients around the world. ISTAR produces digital images and 3D surfaces through an automated TrueOrthoÔ production system. The TrueOrthoÔ process eliminates building lean and terrain displacement from ortho imagery, generates high-resolution 3D surfaces directly from images, and delivers truly exceptional accuracy.
