Photogrammetry is being used by troopers on the North Shore and across the state of Massachusetts in New England to investigate car crashes. The police were able to purchase the digital cameras and software and provide training to troopers using a $350,000 grant from the Massachusetts Highway Department. The speedy process benefits not only to police, but to other drivers. Clearing accident scenes quickly can also have safety benefits. State police predict fewer secondary crashes, which occur when curious drivers focus their attention on accident scenes instead of the traffic around them.
