Philippines: The University of the Philippines Visayas recently launched the first GIS laboratory to assist in providing excellent training and education to local government units (LGUs). The modern training facility was a donation from the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ) of Frankfurt, Germany through its Environmental Resource Development Program (EnRD).

UPV Chancellor Rommel Espinosa said that the GIS laboratory shall serve as a venue for training, research and consultancy that can boost the planning and training programs of the cities and municipalities in Western Visayas.
The laboratory will further public service in the area of local government, tax governance and land use planning.
