Philippines’ province to get a geodetic station

Philippines: The National Mapping and Resource Information Authority will establish an active geodetic station in Negros Oriental.

A team from the NAMRIA Mapping and Geodetic Department will soon conduct a site reconnaissance to identify feasible sites for the AGS in Negros Oriental.

Kerisma Victoria Cayapan of NAMRIA said that the rooftop of the provincial Capitol building in Dumaguete City is one preferred site but this will still depend on the outcome of an ocular inspection and suitability check.

The NAMRIA guidelines on minimal obstruction and ultra-stability will be followed in the establishment of the AGS, she said.

NAMRIA Administrator Peter Tiangco has recently written Gov. Roel Degamo and informed him that the agency is engaged in the densification of the Philippine Active Geodetic Network, which will be composed of permanent stations strategically located nationwide.

The network will gather geographic positions from the Global Navigation Satellite Systems for use in geodetic surveying, mapping, research and related activities, Tiangco said.

Cayapan said 38 active geodetic stations will be installed all over the country, and the one in Negros Oriental will be a “backbone” network.
