PCI Geomatics, Canada-based supplier of image centric Geospatial technology, announced that it will supply core image analysis software for the RapidEye AG initiative. This relates to an announcement made recently by RapidEye AG of Munich, Germany that it has secured financing for the implementation of a constellation of five Earth Observation satellites, a satellite ground control center and an image processing chain.
Key features of the RapidEye system include: the delivery of up-to-date data with each point on earth capable of being revisited at least once a day; a large imaging capacity of more than 4 million square kilometres per day; and imaging sensors optimized for vegetation monitoring. The system will provide regular, up-to-date information about vegetation status and its changes.
RapidEye will focus on customers in the agricultural sectors – insurance companies, farmers, food producers – and cartography sectors as well as on national and international public entities.
