Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada, 19 December 2006 – PCI Geomatics has announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the State Key Laboratory of Information in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LIESMARS) in China.
The MoU outlines plans for cooperation in a variety of areas including the introduction of emerging image-centric geospatial technology in China and outlying regions. It also highlights plans for further promotion of geoinformatics along with a better understanding of the Earth and space.
LIESMARS is a unique key-state laboratory specializing in geoinformatics, and represents China’s best level of research in this field. With a faculty of over 75 members, the lab’s major research directions include remote sensing, image processing, spatial information, GIS software and more.
As a state key lab serving the country’s research forefront, LIESMARS keeps a tight connection with the international research community, as well as the geospatial industry. Prof. Gong Jianya, Director of LIESMARS said, “To create a formal relationship with PCI, one of the largest enterprises in this field, will further enhance our research focus on the global industry demands on geomatics.”
The memorandum of understanding aims to identify areas of common interest including facilitating research work with LIESMARS and brand recognition for PCI Geomatics within the Chinese geoinformatics community.

The State Key Laboratory of Information Engineering in Surveying, Mapping and Remote Sensing (LIESMARS) is a unique laboratory in the field of surveying and mapping in China. The establishment of LIESMARS was approved in 1989 by the National Planning Commission and was constituted in 1991.
