OS urges schools to take free maps

UK: Ordnance Survey (OS) is urging schools to place their orders for free maps before this year’s offer closes on October 15, 2010. Over 8,000 schools across Scotland, England and Wales can order for free OS Explorer Map for the 11 year-olds in their schools as well as some extra copies for teachers.

The free maps scheme has been running for nine years and has seen the national mapping agency give away over 6 million maps. This year the closing deadline has been extended to 15 October to allow schools to distribute the maps before Ordnance Survey moves to its new head office, located on the outskirts of Southampton.

A list showing the number of schools, area wise, yet to order the maps is available at: .
