Ordnance Survey announced the appointment of geographic information specialist Simon Doyle as Development Manager within the Information Systems group. He will head up the mapping agency’s software and systems application development within its Technology directorate and brings with him experience in the private and public sectors – as well as in academia.
Most recently Simon worked with ISL Experian, developing geo-enabled risk modelling tools in the insurance sector – work that received the AGI award for Technical Innovation (Private Sector) 2004. Previous roles also include technical product development at UK GIS company Cadcorp; GIS management at the London Borough of Brent; and research at CASA, University College London. He holds an MSc in Geographic and Geodetic Information Systems (UCL).
Mr. Doyle has also been appointed Senior Vice-Chair of the Association for Geographic Information (AGI) for 2005 – after two years as a member of AGI Council. The AGI is a not-for-profit organisation that aims to increase the uptake of geographic information across the UK economy. It consists of a broad membership and is a key body for debate and discussion around geographic-information-related issues.
