Optimal Geomatics Inc., a geomatics service and software provider to the power line and pipeline utility sector, announced recently that the company has acquired certain non-core LiDAR assets and liabilities of MD Atlantic Technologies, Inc. (ATI) of Huntsville, Alabama, a subsidiary of MacDonald, Dettwiler, & Associates Corp. (MDA). The acquisition of ATI closed on November 30th, 2005 for US$5.1 million subject to post closing adjustments. ATI is a supplier of geospatial information, digital aerial mapping data, airborne laser survey (LiDAR) information, geospatial data, photogrammetrically engineered map products, and GIS data sets to numerous business and governmental organizations throughout the US. The acquisition of the ATI assets strengthens Optimal’s value proposition as a fully integrated provider of enterprise-wide geomatics services and products in both its North American and UK markets. ATI’s aerial survey and data acquisition capabilities compliment Optimal’s existing data analysis services to provide the full spectrum of geomatics services. The business combination will provide stronger customer solutions, improve efficiency, and provide the ability to scale operations without external dependencies. Optimal Geomatics specializes in providing highly accurate geomatics services and software to a customer-base, which is primarily composed of Electric power line and Gas pipeline utilities.
