Oman invites mapping bids for road project

Muscat: The Transport and Communications Ministry has set the ball rolling for the major Diba-Lima-Khasab road project inviting tenders for survey and mapping. The first-ever road to have tunnels is to come up in Musandam Governorate. This would be one of the prestigious road projects in the Sultanate. The ministry has invited tenders for engineering geological mapping, seismic refraction survey and geotechnical investigation for the road project as it would involve designing, building, operating and maintaining of the road.

The Khasab-Lima-Diba road project in Musandam Governorate with tunnels would be the first of its kind in the Sultanate, according to authorities in the ministry. The 65-km mountain road from Al Khalidya in Khasab to Diba would pass through Lima. As per plans, it is proposed to have seven tunnels along the road. The project is considered strategic for the Sultanate as it would help trade through the Khasab port whose development is on the cards. The road is expected to play a significant role in not just supporting trade by road but also maritime activities. Besides, the project would play a crucial role in giving a boost to tourism activities in the area.
