Norway supports seismic mapping in Myanmar

Norway: The Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs supports mapping of seismic activity in Myanmar. Following an earthquake of magnitude 7.0 on the Richter scale and 10 km depth struck close to Thai border in Myanmar on March 24, Norway is financing a project, implemented by the Asian Disaster Preparedness Centre (ADPC) in Bangkok, aimed at mapping the risk of earthquakes in Myanmar.

The initiative for this mapping project was taken by Professor Kuvet Atakan at the University of Bergen, Norway. It falls under the framework agreement between the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and ADPC on emergency preparedness initiatives in Asia.
