North West Group, the Canada-based aerial photography, photogrammetry and remote sensing services company, has purchased an ADS40 Airborne Digital Sensor from the GIS & Mapping Division of Leica Geosystems. The system is one of several ADS40s currently used worldwide to collect high-resolution aerial imagery along with multi-spectral data. North West now operates Leica Geosystems’ complete range of advanced airborne sensors – the ADS40, several RC30 aerial film cameras and an ALS40 Airborne Laser Scanner. North West also operates a Leica DSW500 film scanner.
The ADS40 has revolutionized the photogrammetry industry by bringing the convenience of an all-digital workflow (without film processing or scanning) to the production environment while maintaining broad coverage and image quality. The system captures three panchromatic channels (forward, nadir and backward) and four multispectral bands (RGB and NIR) simultaneously, in continuous strips of imagery. This results in lower production requirements, for example, in mosaicking.
