Las Cruces, US: The US-based National Geographic Society’s education foundation offered USD 32000 grant to the New Mexico State University (NMSU) to boost geography education across the state.
Professor Michael DeMers of the University said that the grant will be used to form the New Mexico Geographic Alliance. It will be part of a network of 50 such alliances that will be aimed at improving geographic education throughout the United States.
DeMers added that he wants to make it fun for students by bringing more technology, online education and other activities into the classroom. In three years, he stressed his goal is to start bringing educators to NMSU to learn how to teach GIS as well as how to teach geography using such devices such as iPads.
