Russia: JSC “NIS”, Research and Design Institute of Regional Development and Transportation (NIPI TRTI), and Nomura Research Institute (NRI) signed a three-party collaboration agreement on utilisation of GLONASS technology for development of the Russian transportation system.
The Agreement provides for creation of an automated navigation information system for logistics management of commodity and transport flow along the main international freight transportation routes between the Russian Federation, Customs Union member states, and Asia-Pacific region (APEC) countries, utilising GLONASS navigation technology and international data interchange standards.
The document was signed by Alexander Gurko, CEO of JSC “NIS”, Alexey Vorontsov, General Director of NIPI TRTI, and Akira Iwata, General Manager of the NRI Moscow branch.
Collaborative activities provide for three working phases: Developing a scientifically substantiated concept for creating an automated management system for commodity and transport flow logistics, evaluating available technical capacity and economic viability for establishing such a system using GLONASS navigation technology and international data interchange standards, and developing a prototype of this system for the main international transportation routes between the Russian Federation, Customs Union member states, and APEC.
Joint project for application of satellite navigation technologies will be coordinated by the National Navigation Services Provider NIS GLONASS.
“Japanese colleagues have a wealth of R&D and production potential for satellite navigation technologies development and adoption. Export-import and transit goods shipment regulation process will be refined through combined efforts on both Russian and Japanese sides”, said JSC “NIS” CEO Alexander Gurko.
Results will contribute to Russia’s competitive capacity on the global market of transportation and logistics services; they will help attract shipments and financial resources to international transportation routes that run through our country’s territory.
Propagation of GLONASS satellite technology and international data interchange standards will ensure operational monitoring of shipments along their routes.
