NIS Glonass eyes Indian LBS market

New Delhi, India: NIS Glonass, a satellite navigation-based service provider, announced that it will start its India operation in the first quarter of 2012. With its head office in Mumbai and regional offices in Delhi and Chandigarh, the company aims to tap India’s location-based service (LBS) market. The India office will be headed by Vladimir Finov.
NIS Glonass is part of JSFC Sistema, the largest public diversified financial corporation in Russia and the CIS and manages a business portfolio of high-growth consumer service companies. In conversation with CIOL, Alexander Gurko, CEO of NIS Glonass, said, “Outside Russia, India is the number one priority for the company. For its India operations, the company is focusing on central government, state governments, police and utility vertical. Initially, the company is focusing to participate in government projects related to passenger information system, fleet management system and police modernisation.”
The company is also focusing on telematics solutions catering to ‘business 2 government (B2G), business 2 business (B2B), and business 2 consumer (B2C) segment’. The solution is already developed, proven, and deployed and can be customised for the Indian market.
So far, the company has done pilots with Glonis Solution and HBL Power Systems in the Indian market related to fleet management system. For embedded system, the company has signed up with Tata Elxsi, a company focusing on customize design solutions for companies across the globe. In addition, the company is considering appointing state partners across the country. The state partners will focus on installation, commissioning, support and maintenance of products and solutions related to telematics for the Indian market.
The USP of the company is that they provide fleet management planning, optimisation and cost reduction unlike others who provide only tracking and reporting.
