Nigerian state inks deal for GIS project

Nigeria: Bayelsa State in Nigeria has signed an agreement with an information technology provider, Sivan Design D. S. Limited, to develop a world-class computerised system to run its Bayelsa Geographic Information System (BGIS).

The state has also presented a draft payment of N508 million mobilisation to the contractor which represents 30% of the total cost of the project to facilitate the job.

The GIS project could go a long way towards addressing peculiar land administration challenges confronting the state especially as the state was positioning itself to attract investors.

Governor Seriake Dickson pointed out that the project would speed up the process of issuing certificates of occupancy to property owners in the state, lamenting that the process has suffered undue delay.
