Nigerian shores mapped

Nigeria: Minister of Environment, John Odey has informed that the federal government through the National Oil Spill Detection and Response Agency (NOSDRA) has carried out an Environmental Sensitivity Index (ESI) mapping of the shoreline between Lagos and Calabar.

“The mapping is essential to preserve and protect our fragile ecosystem from the impact of oil spill. I therefore urged all oil companies operating in Nigeria to take advantage of the ESI to guide their operations,” he said. He explained that the mapping which extended 50km inwards captured all available sensitive ecosystems for adequate protection in the event of oil spill.
