Nigeria: Nigeria is set to manufacture and successfully launch its own satellite before 2025.

Addressing the Space Technology Week, Edmond Gajere, Director, National Centre for Remote Sensing (NCRS), said space activities in Nigeria have been on for a very long time. “Officially, the agency was approved in 1999, but before then, the National Centre for Remote Sensing had been in place and then, it was coordinating the space week. So, space technology is not only meant for the people of the National Centre for Remote Sensing. Other scientists are involved,” he added.

He listed the achievements of the centre to include training of staff, trying to locate some areas and quick response to combat floods and other natural disasters in the country.

The director said before the introduction of space agency in 1999, “We have been doing remote sensing for the application of space activities in the National Centre for Remote Sensing here in Jos.”
