NGA and Lockheed Martin to improve delivery of geospatial data to users


Herndon, USA, December 03, 2007: The National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and Lockheed Martin are working to streamline and speed the delivery of critical maps, imagery and other geospatial data to users worldwide. The Demand-Based Geospatial Intelligence (DBGI) program is an automated supply chain management system that allows users to request and access geospatial data in the format and delivery method of their choosing. Lockheed Martin is teamed with One Network Enterprises, which will provide supply chain management software and expertise to the DBGI program.

DBGI will make the request and delivery process more flexible and adaptable to the user. For instance, some users may require large-format, hard copy maps that are printed to rigorous specifications for resolution and colour depth. Others might prefer a digital map that they can download online and print from their location. DBGI gives each user the flexibility to define their requirements over a web-based request system.

“The delivery of maps and imagery can be the most challenging part of the geospatial-intelligence process, because the user base is spread out across the world and can have vastly different requirements,” said Mike Lee, Lockheed Martin Vice President of Business Development for Global Security Solutions. “DBGI allows the user to define the data they need, the format they need it in, and how they need it delivered – all through the NGA Portal. Once they’ve made the request, our web-based supply chain system manages the end-to-end creation and delivery of the products directly to their location.”
