New website putting UK’s borough on the map

Ever wondered whether you can park near your destination – or what night buses serve your area?
Barnet Council has launched a £50,000 online mapping system that answers those questions and thousands more. By visiting the GIS at Barnet Council’s website, residents can find out practically anything about the borough.

And to help locate the chosen item there are maps and aerial photographs pinpointing exactly where things are. After downloading the free software, people can log on and find locations for things as diverse as CCTV cameras, cinemas, doctors surgeries and controlled parking zones.

You can even look at what planning applications are pending in your street. Users can then click on the map to see where things are situated and find the best route to them.

The site also offers background information including the latest Ofsted reports on the borough’s schools so parents can make informed choices about their children’s education. The information, including Ordinance Survey maps and photographs, has been collected by council staff over the last year and gradually added to the site.
