HEWLETT-PACKARD (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd (HP) will showcase a new GPS-enabled handheld device at the Microsoft Mobile Embedded Developers Conference (MEDC) 2005 exhibition. The new iPAQ hw6515 Mobile Messenger PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) is expected to present opportunities for mobile applications and services developers.

The hw6515 is their first Pocket PC PDA with integrated GPS navigation capability. This opens up opportunities for developers to create new applications, such as those indicating the location of ATMs, restaurants, shops, and other facilities. The Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition-based device was also launched. It comes bundled with a GPS map that not only indicates direction, but also works out the fastest route between two points, and verbally guides users to their destinations. The map is supplied by Mappoint Asia (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd, a local subsidiary of Bangkok-based MappointAsia Co Ltd, which provides a range of terrestrial and satellite maps, mapping software, vehicle tracking and other solutions there.
