New Delhi: The Delhi traffic police have used GIS mapping service to identify accident spots. A total of 79 accident-prone areas have been identified.

Out of 79 dark spots, 20 accident prone roads have registered over 200 fatal accidents till April 30 this year. The reasons for the maximum number of accidents include unscientific curvature of roads, narrowing of carriageways, sudden merger of traffic, over grown trees, insufficient lights and sudden spurt in speed of vehicles. “During this survey, it was also revealed that the traffic police analysed every major accident that took place during the last year and plotted them on GIS map to ascertain the actual reasons for accidents and thus identified several reasons for the accidents,” said an official.
