New to the 2016 release is the BIM Coordination Model, which helps users avoid clashes in their designs by enabling use of Navisworks models as underlays in AutoCAD. Image courtesy of Autodesk.US: Autodesk has released its new 2016 Design Suites, which are expected to provide customers with expanded tool sets, better interoperability and a consistent user experience to help them meet the growing demand for BIM. The design, engineering and construction solutions suites, each include AutoCAD 2016, ReCap and 3ds Max for faster and more precise detailed design and documentation delivery. For example, AutoCAD 2016 is targeted at the construction industry to help make it easier to coordinate, extract as-built information, and document designs. The ReCap technology supposedly introduces better accessibility and affordability to Reality Computing with the addition of more native laser scan formats, smart measurement tools, advanced annotation and sync capabilities.

Updates to architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) include: Building Design Suite for improved software performance and better interoperability for visualisation, clash detection and detailing; Infrastructure Design Suite, which offers connected workflows between preliminary engineering and detailed design phases, better collaboration with extended data exchange capabilities, enhanced project organisation tools and improved software coordination with consistent user interfaces.
