Philadelphia: The University of Pennsylvania School of Social Policy and Practice (SP2) and Azavea, a geospatial analysis software company, have launched the Homelessness Analytics web application. The new online database helps in mapping trends of homelessness among the general population and the veterans.
The application has been developed in collaboration with the National Centre on Homelessness Among Veterans (NCHAV) in the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). The software developed by Azevea includes maps based on different socio-economic indicators that are related to homelessness. The application provides an easy access to data (sourced from various agencies) on homeless population. The project applies geospatial analysis to not only describe a set of social conditions but also model, simulate and forecast the impact of policy decisions. Users can manipulate the data by exploring maps and creating customized tables.
