SolidWorks Corporation announced that a new company called Mission3-D has used SolidWorks 3D mechanical design and collaboration software to create a one-of-a-kind device for three-dimensional photography. Partners from around the world designed, developed, and manufactured the product with minimal face-to-face meetings and travel expenses. The device, called Photo3-D, lets anyone take and share eye-popping three-dimensional photographs using their digital camera. In addition to using SolidWorks software to design the device, Mission3-D and its partners used SolidWorks and its eDrawings e-mail enabled design-sharing application to refine the 3D models. They also used the SolidWorks Manufacturing Network to find overseas manufacturing partners. This virtual product development helped the product get to market faster and more affordably than with traditional analog approaches.
