Nepalese geospatial co promotes tourism

Kathmandu, Nepal: Nepal GPS Solution (NepGS) prepared a digital map of Nepal. It covers eight popular tourist destinations of the country and can be downloaded on GPS-enabled devices. The destinations include Pokhara, Bhaktapur, Dhankuta, Janakpur, Palpa, Ilam and a trekking route to Shyarpu Lake in the Rukum district. The company is making the service available for free during the Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011.

Bijay Dewan, one of the founders of NepGS, said, “We are mainly focusing on tourism but we plan to build maps of all the cities in the country and make them available to tourists for free.” He unveiled that in the next phase, the company would be focusing on trails. Dewan explained the navigation map can be downloaded from the NepGS website. It tells the shortest distance and route of desired destinations.

On the other hand, Gforce Service and Technology, an IT solution provider, announced that soon it will a tourist online guide. It will allow users to track down the whereabouts of the tourist, if needed. Sabin D Joshi, Business Development Manager of Gforce Service, said that the company will also offer voice communication and operator assistance to tourists as per their requirement.
