National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) will soon start work on Geographic Information System (GIS) and Land Information System (LIS) projects.
The work on these projects is likely to start by next year. The projects are aimed at providing information about geography and land to the people.This was mentioned by a NADRA source. NADRA will of course need services of private and public groups in this regard was added by the source.
The source said the projects were to identify distances and geographic conditions of various areas of the country. It will be ready information. Once anyone seeks it, the computerised information can be consulted”, the source said.
NADRA currently is working to ensure provision of National Identity Cards (NICs) to new voters for the forthcoming general polls. The Authority in this regard had made arrangements to provide manual NICs to the citizens in far-flung areas to guarantee them a chance to vote in general polls. The manual cards would be provided to the citizens in 105 districts of the country on temporary basis for the polls and later on, the computerised cards would be delivered.
Around 6 million 18 year olds, who have just attained the minimum age fixed for electorates, would be provided manual cards on priority basis. NADRA, among other projects, has been assigned the task to provide computerised NICs to over 140 million citizens.
