President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recently announced that she has ordered to be put up for sale the prime lot of the National Mapping and Resource Information Authority (Namria) located at Fort Bonifacio, Philippines.

The money from the sale of the seven-hectare Namria lot will then be used to finance the speedy geo-hazard mapping operations to prevent another disaster like what took place in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte.

Secretary Michael Defensor said the geo-hazard mapping would be outsourced to foreign countries, perhaps Singapore. He added that there are an estimated 1,500 geo-hazardous areas in the country.
