MOU for urban heat island mapping in Malaysia

Malaysia: Institute Sultan Iskandar, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (ISI-UTM) and DES Consulting Pte Ltd, Singapore (DES) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to cooperate and undertake collaborative work in the field of urban heat island mapping and simulation studies.

This effort is important for climatic change studies, sustainable planning and architecture development, energy efficiency management, carbon footprint and other related fields. The outcomes of the collaborative ventures are for mutual benefits and specifically geared towards supporting the development of Iskandar Malaysia region and the city of Johor Bahru.
The areas of cooperation that may be undertaken through this understanding include:
– Research activities and consultancy services.
– Partner in idea generation and innovation.
– Advisory capacity to advice on matters pertaining to development proposal.
– Technology development through research and development.

ISI and DES will from now embark jointly to develop new business opportunity through realisation of research outputs and productization of knowledge. Other promising activities include joint involvement in consultancy commission, seminar, training and development of human capital in BIM and mapping technology.

This MOU will be valid for three years and may be subjected to extension by mutual consent in writing.  Either party may however terminate the Memorandum by giving written notice 6 months in advance.
