Philippines: The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Regional Office XI, the Philippine National Police (PNP) XI, University of the Philippines Mindanao, DENR-Mines and Geosciences Bureau (MGB) XI, Philippine Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) XI and the Housing and Land Use Regulatory Board (HLURB) – Southern Mindanao Office signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for the conduct of the Training of Trainers (TOT) on GIS application for mainstreaming disaster risk reduction (DRR) and Climate Change Adaptation (CCA) in Subnational Development and Land Use/Physical Framework Plans.
The MOA Signing was held at the NEDA-RDC XI Center, Bangkal, Davao City. The TOT that was covered by the said MOA is an offshoot of NEDA’s Integrating Disaster Risk Reduction and Climate Change Adaptation in Local Development Planning and Decision-making Processes (DRR+CCA) Project with funding support from the Australian Agency for International Development (AusAID) and being administered by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).
While Compostela Valley and Davao Oriental are the project’s pilot provinces in Davao Region, the two other provinces, Davao del Norte and Davao del Sur, will eventually benefit from the project’s technical assistance in the form of capability building in GIS application for DRR and CCA. Ultimately, the project will be able to build more resilient communities in the region with the regular use of the GIS in mainstreaming DRR and CCA in their local development plans.
In the same activity, a localized audio visual presentation (AVP) on DRR-CCA was pre-viewed by the participating officials. The AVP material shall serve as the main advocacy material for DRR-CCA.
