Ukraine: A preliminary US intelligence assessment has indicated that the Malaysian Airline plane was taken down by a missile fired by pro-Russian separatists. The Ukrainian government and rebels have blamed each other for the disaster. The flight from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, a Boeing 777, was shot down using a surface-to-air missile. There were 298 people on the plane, nearly two-thirds of them Dutch citizens

The White House has issued a statement pressing for a full, credible and unimpeded international investigation, adding that it was vital that no evidence be tampered with at the crash scene. Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine bore responsibility for the crash, but he did not address the question of who might have shot it down.

According to the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces, the airplane was shot down by the Russian Buk missile system as the liner was flying at an altitude of 10,000 meter. The statement also added that Ukraine has no long-range air defense missile systems in this area. The plane was shot down, because the Russian air defense systems was affording protection to Russian mercenaries and terrorists in this area. Ukraine will present the evidence of Russian military involvement into the Boeing crash.
