UK: 3D Mine Surveying International, based in Penryn in Cornwall, has been awarded a European Social Fund Convergence grant to work with the University of Exeter and Camborne School of Mines to work on a project for forensic surveying and reconstructing accident scenes. The initiative will use 3D modelling and laser scanning in the £4 million European Social Fund Research Knowledge Transfer Project with partners at the Universities of Cornwall. UK police forces will be involved in trialing the survey techniques to see whether they are applicable to accident reconstruction and forensic surveying. “After building our initial reputation in the mining sector we’re now making contacts in other sectors and developing skills that are staying within Cornwall but can be used globally,” said James Jobling-Purser, Company founder.
