The transition from ArcView 3.x to ArcView 8 has been eased for users who will be enrolling in the free course offered by ESRI Virtual Campus. Migrating from ArcView 3.x to ArcView 8 teaches GIS users about the differences between the two versions of ArcView and how the new applications in ArcView 8 enhance the software. New terminology and features in ArcView 8 are explained in the course, allowing students to competently and more effectively utilize the software.
ArcView 3.x users learn how to apply their current knowledge to the next level in ArcView 8. Windows-based applications that are new to ArcView are detailed in the course including ArcMap, ArcCatalog, and ArcToolbox. After taking the course, students will be able to use ArcView to display feature and tabular data; georeference spatial data; query features using logical expressions; find features using spatial relationships; edit spatial data; import features into a geodatabase; create new feature classes; and create maps, reports, and graphs.
Each of the six modules details a different function of ArcView 8. Starting with the basics of ArcView 8, students move through the different steps of displaying and working with their data.
