US, October 14, 2014: Michael Baker International has won the contract for the Statewide GIS Strategic Plan by the Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA). Michael Baker International will assist VITA in charting a path towards an interoperable geospatial environment using effective coordination, collaboration, communication, and creative services.
“In the Commonwealth of Virginia, geospatial technology can provide solutions in areas such as public safety, emergency management, transportation, natural and historic resources, environmental protection, health care, land use, and economic development,” said Jonathan Soulen, AICP, GISP, Michael Baker International GIT Group Manager.
Michael Baker International will work directly with stakeholders across the state of Virginia to define the strategic direction of GIS goals and initiatives in the Commonwealth. This strategic plan will help formulate the vision, strategy and recommendations for key initiatives such as Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG911). The plan will aid the Commonwealth in developing and maintaining geospatial standards, facilitating geospatial educational opportunities, providing framework basemap data layers, and identifying and developing innovative technical solutions.
