In March 2004, the public utility company of the City of Merzig in the German Federal State of Saarland successfully concluded the implementation of AED-SICAD’s standard application for utilities SICAD-UT. The project included the migration of the network data from the former system grips/Poppenhäger which are now available in the AED-SICAD applications for the sectors gas and water.
Merzig’s public utility decided for AED-SICAD together with their cooperation partner energis. energis, Saarland’s largest energy supplier, who has already been successfully using SICAD-UT for a couple of years, has managed the system implementation and the data transfer. Based on this homogeneous GIS system environment on both sides, Merzig’s utility is charged with the update of the data, while energis is responsible for the entire system operation. Merzig is now working with up-to-date, topologically linked and high-quality network information, thus disposing of further analysis possibilities. Additionally, the company benefits from energis’ professional GIS services for a more transparent cost calculation.
