Russia: MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. (MDA), a provider of essential information solutions, signed a contract for CAD 2.5 million (CAD: Canadian dollar) with ScanEx Research and Development Centre (ScanEx). Under this contract, MDA will provide RADARSAT data information to multiple ground stations in Russia over three years. The information will be used by Russian commercial, academic, and government users for applications that include mapping and emergency response.
MDA has supplied ScanEx with RADARSAT data information since 2004, supporting a network of ground stations in Russia that are built, maintained and serviced by ScanEx. Receiving stations developed at ScanEx RDC and certified to operate with RADARSAT data are located in Moscow, Samara, Megion, Krasnoyarsk, Magadan etc. This enabled operational satellite monitoring of all Russian territory and adjacent regions.
RADARSAT data is widely applied in Russia for monitoring maritime environmental and shipping situation, for monitoring ice cover in the Arctic Region, for information support of ships navigation though the Northern Sea Route, etc.
