MDA customer upgrades to Radarsat-2, upgrade worth $2.5 million

USA – MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. said Monday that a confidential customer has signed a contract to upgrade a remote sensing ground system to receive and process Radarsat-2 data and renewed an annual data supply agreement.

The company said the initial value of the upgrade is about $2.5 million.

Earlier this year, Ottawa blocked the sale of MDA’s space division, which includes the Radarsat-2 satellite, saying the proposed deal would not benefit the country.

MDA had hoped to sell its information systems and geospatial services branch to Alliant Techsystems Inc., a U.S.-based munitions and rocket components maker, for $1.325 billion in cash.
