MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. has announced that the company has been awarded a contract to enhance the GeoConnections Discovery Portal for Natural Resources Canada. MDA first designed what was then known as CEONet (Canadian Earth Observation Network) in 1996 for the federal government. Since then, the site has hosted over 17 million visitors, and been rated “Best Data Centre” in Canada, the United States, and Australia by its users.
The GeoConnections Discovery Portal provides centralized access to over 1800 geospatial databases, from over 900 geographically diverse sources. These products include satellite images, publications, and maps.
The Web site also lists organizations in Canada and around the world that provide geospatial services, and software. It’s used by groups and individuals in the business of land management, environmental monitoring, earth observation, and education. This latest extension, valued at $1.1 million, will be completed in March, 2003.
