US: A professor at the Texas A&M University — Corpus Christi, has created a mapping app which allows first responders to ‘see’ an emergency situation. The app is called SituMap — short for Situation Map — and it acts like a tablet-like digital command center for law enforcement officers by showing the maps of the crisis area. Designed to run on any Windows-based touchscreen device, it allows officers to search for locations and measure distances. First responders can also position pins or objects strategically around the area and relay directions to officers at the emergency location. The app comes with real-time information on traffic congestion and weather. It can also import information from multiple other sources, like drone imagery, floor-plans and other Web maps.
