MacDonald, Dettwiler and Associates Ltd. says it has won a $170-million order from RapidEye AG of Germany.
The Richmond (Canada)-based company said it will supply a “small satellite mission including five earth observative satellites and ground infrastructure.”
RapidEye is planning to use the system to deliver agricultural land information, such as crop monitoring and mapping, yield prediction and natural disaster assessment.
Its clients will include farmers, insurance and food companies, governments and other agencies and institutions worldwide. RapidEye will also offer products to cartography customers.
MacDonald, Dettwiler said it will be the prime contractor on the RapidEye project and will also take part in marketing and product development efforts.
