Leica to open new facility in Singapore

Swiss Surveying & Engineering Company, Leica Geosystems, is officially opening its $6 million Singapore facility at Woodlands, Singapore. Leica has made the decision to capitalise on Singapore’s superior infrastructure and base of intellectual capital by consolidating its levelling and alignment operations in Singapore.

Leica Geosystems Technologies (LGT) Pte Ltd will be the company’s global headquarters for levelling and alignment products, and center of excellence for the development and engineering of digital and optical levelling technologies. Much of the business unit’s R&D and product development will be carried out in Singapore and LGT expects to invest a further S$3 million each year on R&D activities. About 130 people are to be hired, more than half of which are to be engineering/ R&D staff.

To mark this occasion, Leica will be holding an opening ceremony at its Woodlands facility on March 31, 2005. The Guest-of-Honor will be Minister of State for Trade & Industry, Heng Chee How. Also in attendance will be the Swiss ambassador to Singapore, HE Daniel Woker, along with Hans Hess, CEO & MD of Leica Geosystems and Clement Woon, President Surveying & Engineering Division, Leica Geosystems.
