At this year’s BAU 2011 trade fair, which took place from 17th to 22nd January in Munich, the Leica DISTO D8 won an award for product innovation presented by Bundesarbeitskreis für Altbauerneuerung e.V. (BAKA), Bauverlag and Messe München.
The award aims to promote the development of forward-looking product ideas and designs especially for applications associated with building within existing buildings. The focus is on exemplary products and system solutions that ease the task of modernisation in terms of construction, architecture, economy and efficiency. Under the patronage of Germany’s Federal Minister for Transport, Building and Urban Development, Dr. Peter Ramsauer, the prize for innovation was awarded at the international building fair BAU 2011 in Munich/Germany.
According to the jury, Leica DISTO D8 is supplied in a compact, handy case and is not much larger or heavier than a smart phone. The integrated Bluetooth technology for data transfer and a high-resolution 2.4-inch colour display with a digital point finder including 4x zoom impressed the jury.
Jan Hoppe, Sales Manager at Leica Geosystems GmbH Vertrieb, Germany, said, “We are very honoured to receive this award. We received an earlier award for innovation when we introduced the Leica DISTO D5 at BAU 2009. That we have once more found ourselves accepting a highly regarded award for the DISTO D8 shows that we are continuing to introduce market-oriented products in this further development of the DISTO.”
